Maternity Photoshoot in Munich: How to Prepare for Your Studio Photos

A maternity photoshoot in Munich is booked quickly – but it only gets relaxed with a bit of preparation. This guide to maternity photoshoot preparation covers the right timing, outfits that actually work, how the studio session runs and a checklist for the day.

The short version

✓ Most sessions happen between week 28 and week 34 of pregnancy.

✓ Close-fitting and single-coloured shows the shape of the bump most calmly – bring two or three options.

✓ Depending on the package your session takes 30 to 120 minutes.

✓ Partner, sibling or your own accessories are welcome – just tell us in advance.

✓ Packages start at 49 € incl. 19 % VAT.

When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?

In practice, most people book their maternity photoshoot in Munich between week 28 and week 34. The bump is clearly visible by then, and standing for a while is still comfortable for most.

Earlier, the shape is often still subtle. Later, changing outfits and standing become more tiring, and the date moves closer to the due date. With twins or multiples the session is usually scheduled earlier – mention it when you book and we plan around it.

Timing at a glance

✓ Week 28 to 34 is the usual window.

✓ Plan earlier if you are expecting multiples.

✓ Allow two to three weeks lead time for a preferred date.

✓ Many people feel better in the morning than late in the evening – book accordingly.

What to wear for a maternity photoshoot – and what to leave at home

The bump needs contour, not pattern. Close-fitting, single-coloured pieces keep the image calm; everything else competes for attention. Bring two or three options so you can decide on site.

This works reliably

✓ Close-fitting and single-coloured: a black dress, a simple top with a free bump, a matching underwear set.

✓ A second layer: an open cardigan, a blazer or your partner’s shirt over the fitted piece adds structure.

✓ Flowing fabrics for full-length shots: long dresses with movement read softer on camera.

✓ One colour family: black, cream, dusty pink, sage or burgundy combine easily.

Better left at home

✓ Tight elastic bands. Socks, waistbands and bras leave marks. Take them off roughly 30 to 60 minutes before the first shots.

✓ Large patterns and logos. They pull attention away from the bump.

✓ Fabrics that crease. Linen looks different after ten minutes of sitting.

✓ Brand-new items with fold lines. Hanging them up the night before is usually enough.

Bringing your partner or an older sibling? Coordinate the outfits without matching them exactly: same colour family, similar brightness, simple cuts. For children, comfort beats elegance – a favourite piece helps more than the nicest shirt.

How your maternity photoshoot session runs

1Briefing
We agree on the package, the background colour, who joins the pictures and whether you have specific images in mind. Reference shots help a lot.
2Arriving and changing
You get time to change, your outfits go on hangers, and you settle in. Nobody is put in front of the camera after three minutes.
3Light and background
Depending on the package we work with one or two background colours. The lighting is set up around you, not the other way round.
4Posing – guided, not tested
No experience needed. Posture, hands and where to look are called out for you. Breaks are possible at any time and water is ready.
5Partner and siblings
Children do best early, while patience lasts. Couple shots usually work best once everyone has warmed up.
6Selection, retouching and delivery
You choose your images from roughly 30, 60 or 120 frames. Then follow digital optimisation, background adjustment and retouching around the décolleté and face. You receive the digital version by email, 10×15 cm prints and all frames on CD, DVD or USB.

Maternity photoshoot preparation: your checklist for the day

The evening before

✓ Try on the outfits, hang them up, steam them if needed.

✓ Reduce the jewellery – less usually reads better.

✓ Collect reference images as screenshots.

✓ Check the route and parking (see location below).

On the day

✓ Take off tight elastic bands in good time.

✓ Mind nails and hands – they are large in the frame on bump shots.

✓ Wear your hair the way you feel best; one smooth and one open version gives you choice.

✓ Pack something to eat and drink.

✓ Bring your own music – it helps more than you would think.

✓ Add fifteen minutes of buffer so you do not arrive rushed.

Packages and prices

The three maternity photoshoot packages differ mainly in time, number of edited images and outfit changes. All details are on the Baby Bump Photoshoot page.

Prices range from 49 € to 199 € incl. 19 % VAT. Prints, the digital version and all frames on a data carrier are included in every package, and all packages are also available as a voucher.

If you need something the three packages do not cover – a longer session with the whole family, for example – just ask through the contact form.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a maternity photoshoot take?

A maternity photoshoot takes 30, 60 or 120 minutes in the studio, depending on the package. Add time for arriving, changing and choosing your images.

Do I have to show my bare bump?

No. There are equally calm images with a fitted dress, a cardigan or a shirt. You decide on site how much you show – and you can change your mind at any point.

Can my partner or my child join?

Yes. Tell us who is coming when you book so enough time is planned. With small children we start with the shots you all appear in.

What if I do not feel well on the day?

Get in touch as early as you can. Appointment questions are handled individually – a phone call is the quickest way.

When do I get my images?

The digital version arrives by email, together with prints and all frames on a data carrier. The exact timing is agreed at your appointment, because it depends on the package and current workload.

Do I need make-up?

It is not required. If you like, wear the make-up you feel comfortable with in everyday life – natural and rather matte looks calmest under studio light.

And after the birth?

Many come back for baby photos or a family photo shoot. Both follow on naturally from a maternity session.
